Who: Padma Patil and Draco Malfoy
Where: Draco's room at Hekate's Lair
What: Conversation about Blaise
When: After Padma's confrontation with Snape about Blaise

Padma made her way up in the lift. She needed someone to talk to after her conversation with Snape. The aching in her chest didn’t seem to be going away and her sister was no where to be found. She wondered exactly what it was that Pavrati did all the time to keep her so busy.

She had gone to the hotel to see Hermione. She found that she was a very good listener and would love to hear whatever advice the other woman had. She leaned against the wall of the lift and rubbed her temples. She felt sick to her stomach and the tears she’d been holding back since her fight with Snape in the hall were threatening to pour out once more. The lift dinged and she walked out into the hall and to Draco and Hermione’s door.

She raised her hand and knocked, and heard rummaging followed by cursing as someone walked to the door. Draco opened it, wincing. He smiled at seeing Padma then frowned when he saw the tears in her eyes, “Padma?”

“Is Hermione here?”

He shook his head, “No, she’s…somewhere.” He tilted his head, “You want to come in?” She sighed and nodded, and Draco moved out of the door to allow her entrance. Draco stood beside the door as Padma took a seat on the sofa and put her head in her hands. He frowned, “You’re obviously not okay.”

She shook her head, “No, I’m not.”

“Well, I know you came to see Hermione, but I don’t mind listening…”

“It’s Blaise.”

“What about him?”

She bit her lip, “You know that Severus is back.” She could no longer hold back the tears, “Well, I went to see Blaise this morning, and when I got there I heard him and Snape talking and…well, he sort of said he was going to seduce Blaise…and he didn’t seem to against the idea.”

Draco’s face fell, “He what?”

Padma wiped the tears from her eyes, “He’s going to seduce Blaise…chase him…”

“I know. I heard you,” he said as he walked to the bar and poured a glass of fire whisky and walked back to Padma, “Here. Drink this.”

She shook her head, “I don’t drink.”

Draco shook the glass gently at her, “I think now is the time to start,” he said as she took the glass and then took a seat in the chair beside the sofa, “What are you going to do?”

She shrugged, “I don’t know. I can try to fight for Blaise…but I don’t think I’ll win this fight. I’m…I’m not like Severus or Pansy. I can’t be like them.”

“That’s why Blaise was interested in you in the first place. You’re not Severus or Pansy.”

She took a small sip of the drink and coughed after. She set the glass on the table in front of her, “What do you think I should do?”

“Well, I don’t think you should give up. Blaise does love you. He told me so. You know that he loves you. But…love isn’t really the question is it?”

She shook her head, “No. I know he loves me. But he also loves Severus. I can’t…I don’t think I can compete with what they have.”

“But Padma, you have a lot to offer Blaise as well. He says all the time how you’re the only person he’s ever met that has cared about him without wondering what they were going to get out of it. He wants a future with you. He wants to marry you…”

“But he loves Severus and had a future planned with him too before he left,” she insisted. She huffed out a breath, “The chances of him picking me over Severus are very slim. And if he does pick Severus, you would understand if I resigned, wouldn’t you?”

“You’d quit your job?” he asked softly.

“If quitting meant that I wouldn’t have to seem them together, then yes, I’d quit.”

He frowned, “I hope it doesn’t come to that.”

“What do you think, Draco?”

He thought a lot of things. He thought he might hex Snape’s head right off his shoulders. He told Severus not to cause problems; that Blaise was happy, but the older man just didn’t listen to him. He looked over at Padma and sighed, “I think you should fight for him. Like I said, he does love you. He thinks the world of you and he was so afraid of losing you. I think that works in your favor.”

She frowned, “Why did he have to come back?” She asked as she looked at the floor, tears slipping down her face, “Why couldn’t he have just stayed away?”

Draco placed a hand over Padma’s, “Have faith, Padma.”

“How can I have faith when I know that my heart is going to be broken?”

“Because sometimes things happen and you just have to deal with them. Maybe the opposite will happen. Maybe he’ll realize how much he loves you and wants to be with you.”

“Fat chance.”

“Maybe he’ll realize that Severus was his past while you are his future. Don’t give up hope, Padma. Life, sometimes, will surprise you.”

She shook her head, “This is why I’ve stayed out of relationships. I hate feeling like this.”

“There are good things about relationships. There’s the cuddling, the kissing, knowing you have someone there at the end of the day.”

“I don’t have any of that right now.”

“Did you say anything to Blaise?”

She shook her head, “He left. I spoke with Severus.”

Draco’s eyes narrowed, “What did he say?”

“That I should be worried. And I have to admit that I am. I’m terrified, Draco!”

He nodded, “I’ll talk to them.”

She shook her head, “I’ll talk to Blaise. I…I want to hear it from his own lips that he’s going to leave me.”

He frowned, “As I said, you don’t know that for sure. Believe in Blaise, believe that he loves you.”

She wrapped her arms around herself, “I know he loves me, but he might not love me enough,” she whispered.

He ran a hand through his hair, “I can sit here and tell you all day long that Blaise loves you, but that won’t make you feel any better. You need to talk to him and see for yourself.”

She slowly stood, “I will. Thanks for trying.”

He stood as well and walked her to the door, “I hope this works out in your favor, Padma. Severus may be my Godfather, but he doesn’t deserve Blaise.”

Padma placed a kiss on Draco’s cheek and turned to the door, “Thanks,” she said as she walked into the hall. Draco checked to make sure he had his wand, and left his room only moments after her. He had a fight to pick and he had a feeling his Godfather wasn’t going to like anything he had to say.
